Brian earned his degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College in their Day Care Specialist & Pre-school/Kindergarten program, and has taken many other workshops, seminars, and courses including graduate courses on integrating children with special needs, multi-cultural curriculum, and child care programming. Brian holds a Massachusetts K-3 Teaching Certificate and Director II / Lead-Teacher of Infants, Toddler & Preschool Certificate from the Department of Early Education and Care.

Brian was Director of the Milton Preschool at 865 Brush Hill Rd. from July 1989 through July 1992. Brian also taught in a childcare center for several years working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children. Brian works with the children every day.

Brian and Rachel, who teaches kindergarten in Lincoln, live in Newton with their daughters, Mikaela (8th grade), Sapphire (6th grade), and Rebecca (5th grade).  Jasper “The Friendly”Dog (14 years) sadly passed away in July 2009. Jasper came to the school every day with Brian and spent many hours in the classroom. Brian also serves as a Director on the Board of Discovery Schoolhouse, and founded the school with a group of parents and teachers. He is committed to providing an affordable, high quality, culturally diverse program for families. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the Milton Early Childhood Alliance (MECA). He particularly enjoys singing, playing guitar, building blocks, hammering, reading Dr. Seuss stories, and going on nature walks with the children.

Elyse Elyse S. Robison

Elyse earned a Masters in Education and Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts and Elementary Education from Curry College. Elyse holds a Massachusetts 1-6 Teaching Certificate and Preschool Lead Teacher Certificate from the Department of Early Education and Care. She also holds a CDA (Child Development Associate).

Elyse worked with preschoolers for two summers before starting at Discovery Schoolhouse in 1995, and had student teaching placements in first, third, and fourth grades. Elyse was a full time teacher at Discovery Schoolhouse for many years before accepting her current position as Assistant Director and teacher.

As Assistant Director Elyse supervises the teaching staff. She is originally from Rockland County, New York, and has lived in West Bridgewater for several years with her sons Tyler (three years) and Cameron (1 year), her husband Tom, and her big, black dog Riley, who occasionally visits the school. Elyse enjoys helping children build on their knowledge of the world. She also enjoys reading stories and motivating children to create art and share their ideas.

Shamika Shamika Govan
Teacher

Shamika holds a certificate in early childhood education Urban College, Boston and a Teacher-Preschool Certificate from the Department of Early Education and Care. She has taken many other workshops and classes including classroom curriculum, special needs children, parent communication, and literature for young children.

Before joining Discovery Schoolhouse, Shamika taught toddlers and preschoolers for four years at SMILE Preschool, Roxbury, and Preschoolers for three years at Kids First Day Care, Milton Lower Mills. During her junior and senior years at Milton High School, Shamika was in the Child Study program, and gained much experience working in the on-site childcare program.

Shamika grew up in Milton. She and Gregory live in Lower Mills with her son Nasir and their small gray cat “Kitty.”

She particularly enjoys reading and doing art activities with children. She loves being surprised observing children learn new things.

Sarah Modugno

Assistant Teacher
• Lives just down the the street in Milton
• Worked at Milton Summer Enrichment Camp for 3 years
• Grew up in Milton. Went to Milton schools and Milton HS
• Has attended Mass Bay Comm College and Plymouth State (3 years)
• Working towards an Early Childhood Education degree
• Sings, dances, and plays piano

Jean Prior

Assistant Teacher
• Masters in Elementary Ed from Lesley College
• BA in Music from Boston University
• Ran own preschool music program for eight years
• Also runs early childhood music classes at South Shore YMCA
• Has many years of work experience teaching music in preschools and private schools, YMCA and others.

Derek Clarke

Assistant Teacher
• Lives in Dorchester
• Worked at ABCD Summer Camp as a councilor
• Worked at Hop Afterschool Homework Help
• Attended Husson University in Bangor, ME for one year, is transferring to Curry  College, and taking a year off
• Worked at Boston Youth Fund Tobin Community Center as camp councilor
• Mother ran family child care for nine years as he was growing up!
• As a special talent, he wrote in part “Poetry…”
